Install Present3D
These instructions are for the Mac OS X Binaries that you will find here :
Currently there are two Binaries, one for PPC Macs and one for Intel Macs - make sure you choose the corrrect one. Present3D can also be used as a native Apple windowed (AGL) program or as an X11 program... the binaries here are for the X11 version, AGL versions will be included in the installer that should be available soon.
Preparation
Get out your OSX system disks and there is folder/disk image called "Optional Installs" you may need to scoll down to dind it... open and follow instructions go to Applications and install X11. On the same disk you will find Xcode Tools .... follow the instructions and install the X11 sdk.
Now - go to Applications/Utilities and open Netinfo manager... a window should open ... at the bottom of the middle pane should be users select this and scroll down to the active/appropriate user and select .... info should pop into the bottom pane ... unlock and then edit the line that says:
shell /bin/bash
to read :
shell /bin/tcsh
Now - go to fink: http://finkproject.org/
and install latest Intel or PPC version of Fink - say yes to the dialogue that pops up ..
once installed drag Fink Commander from the disk image on to your HD and open.
Now - install libxml2 and freetype2 ... and then you are ready for the P3D binary ...
In the zip file you will also find a sample tcshrc file this needs to be placed in the active/appropriate users directory/folder and then renamed by placing a period . in front of the file name so it becomes .tcshrc this file includes path and set up information for P3D so before you do this stage .. open the file and make sure you are happy with the default settings ... you can edit at anytime, (using BBEDIT is probably easiest way you will find a demo here : http://www.barebones.com/ ) but it is worthwhile checking that the paths are correct for your set up and becoming familiar with the options.
Now put the P3D binary folder in your Applications folder .... then open X11 and follow instructions from the Manual below.
Present3D Source
If you prefer you can download the Present3D (P3D) source from here :
You will need to download and install the Open Scene Graph also. At this time you need to use the Producer version of the OSG, so you should install OpenThreads, Producer, OSG and then P3D. You will need to modify your .tcshrc file. Below is a sample file (Mac) that can be renamed and placed in your active users directory /Users/"name". To work it must be called .tcshrc
Present3D User Manual : Quick Start Guide
The manual has still to be revised, it was written for the version of P3D that was distributed on CD... but it is probably better than nothing :-)
Oh, since 10.4.8 the native quartz window manager will allow a window to be opened across two displays and thus supports side by side stereo.... so you no longer need to use TWM or other window managers.
